Trojans Survive! Noviello gets Drafted!

The Trojans "survive and advance" in Super 8 Play as they defeated the Xaverian Hawks 10-5 at Campanelli Stadium in an elimination game that ended the Hawks season, but the story of the day was Sr. Andrew Noviello having the day of his life and the game of his life!

The Hawks struck early in the top of the first as they scored 2 runs off of zero hits and 3 walks to take a 2-0 lead. The Trojans bats came out booming  as they opened the bottom of the first with 5 straight hits that scored 3 runs and the Trojans took the 3-2 lead. The Trojans increased their lead in the 3rd as Paul Lafond (single), Kyle Horsman (BB), and Nick Andrews (RBI single) would all score, and they added another run in the 4th as Jack Connolly would be knocked in by a Paul Lafond single to make the Trojans lead 7-2. The Hawks would add a few runs in the 5th, but it was too little too late and the Trojans rolled to a 10-5 victory.
Sr. Paul Lafond earned the win, but the story of the day was Sr. Andrew Noviello having the day of his life.  Noviello, who was heavily scouted all season long, at around 3PM got the phone call he was waiting for, as he was drafted in the 25th round by the Boston Red Sox and followed that up with the game of his life!

I was getting phone calls from [Jack] Toffey, my advisor, and [Red Sox scout Ray] Fagnant, all day,” Noviello said. “Just hearing from them, and [the Red Sox] telling me they were going to pick me sooner or later, they were trying to calm me down, but it was a real stressful day.”
 “I was ready, but I didn’t think it was going to happen just like that,” Noviello said, snapping his fingers. “But it did. Obviously, I cried a little bit. It was a dream come true. There’s no way to explain it."
Noviello "had a day" as he went 4-5 at the plate (out of the leadoff spot), threw a runner out at 2nd (with a perfect throw), then came on to pitch the last 4 innings striking out 10 Hawks allowing only 3 hits and one run.
The Trojans survive and will again play BC High in an elimination game at 4:00 on Friday at Campanelli Stadium. Probable starter is Captain Jack Connolly.

Trojans Falter!

The Trojans fell 13-3 to the Wamps of Braintree in Super 8 action in a packed house at Campanelli Stadium on Monday night and will try to stave off elimination on Wednesday in the losers bracket on Wednesday against Xaverian at a time TBD.
The Wamps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on Monday night as Eric MacDonald led off the game with an inside the park home run as they out hit the Trojans 14-5.  Junior Mikey Manning suffered the loss in 5 innings of work. 
The Trojans were led offensively by Sr Andrew Noviello who went 2-2 with a double.  Probable starter for Wednesday is Lefty Alex McGrath.

Throw BACK!

The Trojans will face off against Braintree Wamps on Monday at Campanelli Stadium following the 4:00 game between St Johns Prep and Wachusett.

Trojans Escape with the W!

The #2 seeded Trojans escaped with the W on Wednesday afternoon against the #7th seeded BC High Eagles in a very exciting game at Hank Pearson Field in opening round "Super 8" play despite committing 6 errors in a 2 inning span that led to several unearned Eagle runs.

Senior Ace, Notre Dame bound RHP, Jack Connolly, who was very well rested (2 plus weeks worth) sat down the Eagles in the 1st inducing 2 ground outs and a strike out.  After a scoreless first the Eagles would threaten as BC High Jr Joe Roddy would double to lead off the inning only to be starnded at 3rd. The 0-0 game remained scorelss until the bottom of the 5th when the Trojans bats awoke as they scored 3 runs on hits by Zac Nussbaum (single), a Paul Lafond 2 run bomb (his first career HS home run), which was followed by an Andrew Noviello No doubt solo shot (6th of the year). After a scorelss 6th the never say die Eagles came to the plate and scored 3 unearned runs off of 1 Eagle hit and they took advantage of 5 Trojan errors to knot the score at 3. The eagles would take the lead in the 8th on 2 hits to take a 4-3 lead (ironically thats the score the Trojans beat the Eagles by 2 years ago...). The Trojans strode to the plate in the 8th looking for answers and they found those answers when Cory Wasylow (ROE), Mikey Manning (single), and Jonathan Livolsi (BB) would score to make it 6-4.   Cory Wasylow scored on a passed ball and Mikey Manning and Jonathan Livolsi would score on a Paul Lafond 2 RBI single past the diving 3B Eagle.  That is all the insurance Sr. jack Connolly would need as he induced a ground out and struck out the remaining 2 Eagles in the 9th for the win!

Offensively the Trojans were led by Sr. Paul Lafond (2-4, HR and 4 RBI's) and Andrew Noviello (2- with a HR and 2 intentional BB). The Trojans will anxiously await their next opponent as they face off against the winner of the Braintree V St Johns Shrewsbury matchup, in the winners bracket,at a date and time TBD.

The Trojans grabbed the #2 seed in the 2nd year of the MIAA Div 1A Super 8 state championship tournament, and will host the #7 seed BC High on Wednesday at 4:00.  Probable pitcher for the Trojans is Senior Jack Connolly.

Trojans down Whalers

The Trojans finished off the regular season downing the New Bedford Whalers 5-1 on Senior Day and finish the 2015 regular season 18-2 and are all but a lock to be voted into the 2nd season of the division 1A Super 8.

The Trojans got all the runs they would need in the 4th inning as Seniors Andrew Noviello, Jack Connolly, Cory Wasylow and Junior Mikey Manning would hit back to back to back to back doubles scoring 3 runs.  Wasylow would launch a 2 run BOMB to center field, scoring Noviello, in the 6th to put the game out of reach.

Mikey Manning pitched a complete game 13k, 3 hit, 84 pitch performance.
The Trojans eagerly await the Super 8 voting procedure by the MIAA on Monday.

Let Down....

After coming off a playoff type-of atmosphere on Wednesday, with a 4-2 Win over the East Bridgewater Vikings, the Trojans traveled 'over the bridge' to square up against the Red Raiders of Barnstable on Thursday and suffered their 2nd loss of the season. 

Getting his second start of the year for the Trojans was Senior RHP Andrew Noviello. After allowing the first two baserunners to reach in the bottom of the first, Barnstable struck first with an unearned run. Noviello got the next three to retire the inning and the Trojans trailed 1-0. The Trojans bats struggled offensively trying to adjust to the speed difference after facing a strong, hard throwing Connor Gavin for EB. The Trojans had 4 baserunners through the first 4 innings of play only one of which advanced past 2nd base. After a brisk top of the fourth, Noviello was back out and had a quick inning of his own.

In the bottom of the 5th the Trojans fell apart mentally allowing two unearned runs and giving up an infield single and BR trailed 3-0 through 5.

The Trojans, who entered play on an 8-game win streak with 86 runs for and 28 against, bats were silent until the top of the 6th. After two back to back singles for Colin Trahon and Noviello, Senior Jack Connolly hit a blast to left field over the head and fence for a RBI Ground-Ruled double but it was too little too late and the Trojans faltered.

TheTrojans hope to bounce back on Friday, as they travel to Fall River to play the Durfee High Hilltoppers. Probable starter is Mikey Manning.

The Battle of the Bridgewaters

The #3 ranked Trojans Trekked, a little over 4 miles, across the Bridgewater/East Bridgewater line to  visit the #9 ranked EB Vikings in a highly anticipated non league matchup on a sunny afternoon at Strong Field and came away with the W as they defeated the Vikings 4-2.

Both teams were sporting shiny records as the Trojans (15-1) put up their Ace, Notre Dame bound Jack Connolly, who would face off against the Vikings (13-2) Ace, SNHU bound Connor Gavin.  

The game was scoreless through the first 2 frames with Trojans getting on the board in the 3rd as Andrew Noviello would knock in Kyle Horsman and Colin Trahon (who both singled) and added another run in the 5th as Trahon (double) would again score, this time off of a Cory Wasylow single to make it a 3-0 game.  The Trojans added an insurance run in the 6th as Jon Livolsi (single) would score on a Cory Wasylow single making it a 4-0 game!  The never say die Vikings battled back in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 2 runs off 1 hit, but it was too little too late and the Trojans rolled to a 4-2 victory.

"He's one of my best friends" Connolly said, when asked to describe his relationship with the Vikings Gavin. "We played baseball together when we were 12 and have remained friends since" 

Connolly is close with the majority of the kids on EB which became apparent to those in attendance as Connolly Exchanged "good game" hugs with most of them at the conclusion of the game.“I told my coach this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I need the ball." Connolly added.

“I was really impressed with how well our hitters did against a really good pitcher in Gavin,” said Coach John Kearney. “It was a like a playoff game for us; two good teams and two good pitchers. It was good high school baseball.” 
The Trojans will travel "over the bridge" on Thursday as they square off against the Barnstable Red Raiders in Old Colony League action.

No Hitter for Manning

The Trojans improved to 12-1 on Monday afternoon behind a gem of a pitching performance by Junior Mikey Manning  who threw a complete game no hitter (13 K's) to improve his record to a perfect 5-0.
"Coming into the Brockton game I felt good." Said the Junior southpaw. "The Practice the day before set the tone. Being both mentally and physically locked in before each start helps. The offensive support was great with Novi getting things going with his 2 run HR. Having runs on the board makes the flow of the game so much easier as a pitcher."
Manning began his dominant afternoon inducing a ground ball followed by 6 K's.  The offensive support came in the 3rd inning as the Trojans put up a 4 spot on Sr. Andrew Noviellos 2 run HR and Captain Jack Connolly's 2 RBI single.
“Even though we didn’t score in the first few innings I still felt comfortable because of how well he (Manning)  was throwing,” Coach Kearney said.
 The story of the game was Manning's  dominance as he kept the Boxers off balance the entire game and recorded at least one strikeout in six of seven innings. He allowed only one walk and two other Boxers reached base on errors. He worked quickly and never gave Brockton a chance to get into a rhythm.

 “We’re 12-1, this was a huge win for us. Brockton can hit and for Mike to shut them down was awesome. Mike’s just having an incredible year for us. What an effort, just incredible. Hats off to him. We haven’t had a no-hitter here in a while, I can’t tell you the last time. Mike deserved that, he really did. He has been throwing well all year. It was no fluke.” added Kearney.
The Trojans will travel to Billerica to face off against the Indians on Tuesday. Senior Jack Connolly is the scheduled starter.

Trojans win... and lose....

The Trojans defeated the Durfee High Hilltoppers on Thursday, 8-4, at Hank Pearson Field, but lost some pitching depth as Junior Chris Newman suffered an unknown injury to his shoulder, as he began warm ups in the bullpen, and will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Senior Andrew Noviello would be a last second replacement for Newman and he did not disappoint as he breezed through the first 2 innings.  It was a different story in the 3rd as the Hilltoppers, who knocked the Trojans off their undefeated 11-0 record last year, would jump out to a 3-1 lead as they scored 3 runs off 3 hits and 2 BB's. The Trojans rebounded in a big way scoring 6 runs off singles by Trahon and Connolly, who would both be knocked in by a Cory Wasylow 3 run BOMB home run and a Kyle Horsman RBI single to take a lead they would not relinquish at 7-3 and the Trojans rolled to victory.
Offensively the Trojans were led by Mikey Manning (2-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and a walk), Colin Trahon (3-4  and scored twice)  and Cory Wasylow's 3 RBI Home run.
The Trojans improve to 11-1 and will host the Brockton Boxers on Monday. Probable starter is Mikey Manning.

Hot Bats Lead Trojans over the Boxers

  The Trojans bats were booming, on Wednesday afternoon, as they rolled to a 21-11 victory over the Brockton High Boxers at Campanelli Stadium to notch their 10^th win of the season.

            The Trojans scored first in the Top of the 1^st with a booming lead-off double by Sophomore Colin Trahon. It was a 320ft shoot off the top of the outfield wall near the bullpens at Campanelli Stadium.  Trahon scored on an RBI single by DH Jack Connolly. 

            On the mound for the Trojans was Junior PJ Walsh, getting his second start of the season. Walsh let up a single to right-center to the Boxers lead-off hitter. “It wasn’t what I planned on doing letting the first guy on base obviously because he was the fastest on the team and having him on base is worrisome,” Walsh said about letting up the base-hit. PJ rebounded by getting a fly-out to right and two fielder’s choices groundouts.

            The Boxers kept BR quiet in the 2^nd    but opened it more in the 3^rd, scoring 4 more runs off two hits. One of those hits was a long time waiting for Junior Infielder Nick Andrews, who was battling hard at the plate the past couple games and he  delivered a two-out 3RBI bases clearing triple and the Trojans lead was 7-0 after 2 ½ inns.

            The Boxers wanted to join the fun in the bottom of the 3^rd and they did. Walsh allowed 4Hits and 5 Runs, none of which were earned, as the Trojans defense looked a bit shaky making a few mental errors.

            This game just kept getting more interesting as the Trojans batted 15 times in the top of the 4^th, plating 10 runs off 5Hits and 6 walks. One hit being a Noviello 2RBI triple, who went 3-5 on the afternoon and Br's lead was increased to 17-7 after 4.

Walsh went 4 innings throwing 81 pitches allowing 7 hits, 7 runs, 0 earned and 3Ks. PJ said on his start, “The second varsity win was big… Even though I had a bad inning the team came right back out and gave a lot of run support... Having good and bad innings is all part of the learning experience and getting better.” He advanced to 2-0 on the 2015 season.

Trojans had 15 hits, 10BBs, and only struck out 4 times. Trojans turned to a young arm in Sophomore Mike DiBari to pitch 2 innings of work, before going with Junior Alex McGrath in the 7^th  to close the game out.

The Trojans advance to 10-1 on the season and their busy week continues as they host the Durfee High Hilltoppers at 4PM at Hank Pearson Field.            

Trojans ROLL.....

The Trojans bats erupted once again on a beautiful and warm Monday afternoon as they defeated the Marshfield Rams 15-3 at Hank Pearson Field advancing to 9-1 on the season. 

The onslaught  of runs opened up early in the bottom of the 1st as Senior Andrew Noviello (RBI) launched a no doubter (HR) to straight away CF. BR as a team plated 6 runs off 4 HRs in the game. Things continued to roll with the "walk master" Senior Jack Connolly drawing a one-out walk, followed by a single and another walk, setting the stage for  Senior Paul Lafond who cleared the bases with a one-out 3RBI stand up double and BR took a 4-0 after 1.

The Trojans starter was Junior Southpaw Mikey Manning. After some close misses he allowed the first 2 to get on by way of walks but would get a grounder to record a 6-4-3 double play to smother any chance of a run by the Rams. Manning ended the inning with a called strikeout, of which he would record 6. 

The Trojans added 6 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd off 10 Trojan hitters. It all started with 3 walks and a wild pitch when Senior Cory Wasyolw cleared them all with a 3-Run Home Run (3RBIs). BR 8-0. 

Manning returned to the hill for 3 more innings, (going 4 in total). Unfortunately after some let down defensively, the Rams scored 2 runs, 1 of which was unearned and the Rams got 2 Hits, and 2Reach-on-errors.

In the bottom of the third the Trojans  added 2 more with a Two-Run Home Run smash by U-Maine Commit Noviello (2) to take a 12-2 lead. 

Senior Brandon Connelly was first out of the pen for Trojans and was pitching his first live action since a 2014 season game at Brockton. The senior looked flawless on the bump, getting out all 6 Rams he faced. Connelly: 23 pitches in 2i nnings with 0 Hits and 4Ks. To close things out for the Trojans, was Lefty Alex McGrath who let up a run and a hit in the top of the 7th, but would close the game out with a K as this game result was never in doubt from the get go.

Offensive notables for BR: Andrew Noviello: 2-2, 2 HRs, 3RBIs, 2BBs, 2Runs., Cory Wasylow: 3-3, HR, 2 singles, 3RBIs, 2Runs and Zac Nussbaum: 1-1 with his first Varsity Home Run. 

The Trojans travel to Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday to play the Brockton Boxers, before they  host  the Durfee High Hilltoppers on Thursday. Both games scheduled for 4pm.

Bounce BACK Jack!

The Trojans returned to their winning ways Thursday afternoon with a 9-0 win over the Acton - Boxboro Colonials helped out by yet another dominating pitching performance by their Ace Senior Captain Jack Connolly (3-0). 

BR rolled to victory with an offensive explosion in the bottom of the third as they batted around the order sending 14 hitters to the plate scoring 9 runs off 8Hits and 3Walks. That was all the offense they would need as Connolly completely shut down the Colonials as they didnt get a hit until  the 5th inning. 

Connolly went the distance for his 3rd complete game throwing 102 pitches. He recorded 11Ks, 2Hits and 3BBs in his dominating performance.  On the season Connolly has 27Ks, 10BBs and 7Hits, throwing 314 pitches in his three starts. 

Not only was Connolly important on the bump, he helped offensively going 2-4 with two doubles and 2RBIs and a run scored. 

Other notables for the Trojans: Andrew Noviello went 2-4 with 2 doubles, 3RBIs. Cory Wasylow 1-1 with 2 walks. Paul Lafond 1-1 with 2 walks. PJ Walsh, a defensive replacement in the 6th, went 1-1 with a single garnishing his first Varsity hit. The Trojans needed a well played bounce back game after a tough loss to swallow on Tuesday. 

BR improves to 8-1 and are off until Monday when they will host the Marshfield Rams, travel to Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday to play the Boxers and close out the week home against B.M.C. Durfee.

"It's a tough long stretch of games" Quipped Senior Manager Cam Peterson "this week will definitely test the composure of the team and our pitching staff."

Unbeaten No More....

​The Trojans fell to Lincoln – Sudbury, in heartbreaking fashion, after rallying for 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th  only to fall short as they suffered their first loss of the season 5-4 on  Tuesday afternoon at Hank Pearson Field. BR threw their 1A-Ace in Andrew Noviello, a University of Maine commit, who made his first start on the hill this season for the Trojans.
​Right off the bat things did not look good for the Trojans after a lead of walk to start the game. Novi rallied retiring the next two L-S hitters with a strikeout and a groundout. L-S clean-up hitter drew a two-out walk, but fortunately for the Trojans they caught him off the base and sat him down on a 1-3-6 pick-off, stranding a runner at third.
​The Trojans came out hot right out of the shoot after a lead off groundout, Noviello singled up the middle. Senior Jack Connolly drew a one-out walk followed by a fly-out. With 2 outs Jon Livolsi hit an infield base hit loading the bases for Junior Mikey Manning. Manning hit a chopper back to the mound stranding 3 Trojans  on base.
​Noviello remained poised on the hill and after giving up a lead-off walk to start the 2nd .
He returned the next three Lincoln-Sudbury batters to their bench on two strikeouts and a 4-3 groundout. BR returned to their dugout but could not get anything going with their bottom of their order and the game was still scoreless after 2.
​The Warriors started the scoring off in the top of the third as they sent eight batsman to the plate and scored three runs to take advantage of 3 Trojan walks to take 3 to 0 lead and added another run in the 4th to make it 4-0 and Noviello's day on the mound was done after 4 innings throwing 88 pitches with 8Ks, 6BBs, 4Hits and 2 earned runs.

​BR got one back in the bottom of the 4th. Jon Livolsi reached on an error (E4) followed by two singles. The senior third baseman scored on a one out SAC Fly by Senior Kyle Horsman (RBI) to cut the lead to 3.  Trojans Head Coach John Kearney turned to his Junior Pitcher PJ Walsh to hold the bleeding and give his offense a chance to score runs back.
Walsh looked good in the 5th, giving up a one out walk and rallied to get a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning. Walsh returned for the 6th, getting the 7 and 8-hitters to groundout and fly-out. The Junior walked the 9-hitter followed by two 2-out singles (RBI) and a pop-out to end the 6th. 5-1 Lincoln-Sudbury. Walsh: 2 innings on 35 pitches, 2Hits, 2BBs, a K and an ER.
 In the top of the 7th Coach Kearney turned to Lefty reliever Alex McGrath who struck out two and induced a groundout giving the Trojans a shot in the bottom of the 7th.
​BR led off the 7th with the bottom of their order and they did not disappoint, Kyle Horsman (single), pinch-hitter Zac Nussbaum (walk), and a pinch-hitter Cade McNaughton (single), Andrew Noviello (2 RBI double) followed by a Cory Wasylow sac Fly would close the gap to 1 but The Trojans would strand the tying run at 2b and BR suffered their first loss of the 2015 season.
The Trojans hope regain their composure and are back at it on Hank Pearson Field Thursday versus Acton-Boxboro at 4:30. Probable starter is Senior Jack Connolly.

Manning's 10 K's propel Trojans to victory

The Trojans defeated the Hingham Harbormen on Saturday at Hank Pearson Field by a score of 6-2. 

BR jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, batting around the order and then some, sending11 Trojan hitters to the plate Recording 6 Hits, 2 Walks, and a fielders choice. 

On the hill for the The Trojans was their Junior Southpaw  Mikey Manning who entered the game 2-0 with 18 Ks in 12 innings of work and started where he left off sitting down the first six Harbormen he faced with 5 strikeouts!  Manning's only hiccup occurred in the top of the 3rd, where he allowed a lead off single that would later score.  

Manning recovered from the run and shut down the next six Harbormen he faced with 3Ks and a 1-6-3 double play. Line Card for the Trojans starter 5 innings with 74 pitches, recording 10Ks, 3Hits and an earned run. 

The Trojans added one more run in the bottom of the 5th as the bottom of BRs lineup came through. Senior Kyle Horsman and Junior Nick Andrews (RBI) hit two back to back doubles increasing the Trojan lead to 6-1. 

Coach Kearney turned to Junior Chris Newman to finish things up for the Trojans. Newman, coming off a no decision start versus Dennis - Yarmouth on April 18th, breezed through the 6th and gave up a lead off double followed by a strikeout.The Harbormen would score a meaningless run in the 7th before  Chris Newman rallied back to record his 4th strikeout in relief followed by a groundout (6-3) to end the game and the Trojans rolled to victory. Newman went 2 innings throwing just 26 pitches recording 4Ks, 2Hits and a run.

“Jack Connolly and Andrew Noviello are one and one-A,” said Kearney. “So far this year he’s been our number three but for a while he was our number two before Noviello came back. We didn’t have Noviello for our first couple of games.

“Mike and Chris Newman could be even at three-four or four-three. We have another kid, P.J. Walsh, who pitched great last week against New Bedford (B-R beat the Whalers 3-1) in that Plymouth North tournament. (i.e. the Brad Martin Tournament). We feel we have five solid starters."

“He loves baseball and he’s a great kid. He could be the number one for a lot of teams, I think.” Quipped Kearney of his Junior southpaw.

Offensively for the Trojans: Senior Captain Jack Connolly went 2-3 with two singles and a RBI. Senior Kyle Horsman went 1-3 with a double and a fielders choice RBI. Junior Nick Andrews went 2-3 with a single and double as well as 2 RBIs. 

The Trojans hope to continue their winning ways as they host  Lincoln-Sudbury on Tuesday April 28th. Probable starter is Notre Dame commit Jack Connolly (2-0).

Trojans remain unbeaten!

The Trojans improve to 6-0 on the early 2015 season as they defeated the Plymouth North Eagles 5-2 in the Championship game of the Brad Martin Tournament on a windy day at Plymouth North High School. On the hill for his second start of the season was Senior Captain Jack Connolly.
The Trojans jumped out to and early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Leading off with a stand up triple, to help himself out, was none other than Captain Connolly.  Left Fielder Manning drew a walk and advanced to 2nd on a fielders choice, while Connolly scored the first run of the game. A one out RBI single by Senior Kyle Horsman scored Manning (2-0 BR). Junior Nick Andrews hit a fielders choice grounder to third and Plymouth got the lead runner Horsman out at 2nd. Andrews advanced to third, after a two out stolen base, followed by a passed ball. Sophomore Colin Trahon drew a two out walk and a ball four passed ball plated Andrews making the Trojan lead 3-0 through  two innings.

Connolly looked dominate on the rubber sitting down 6 Plymouth North hitters by way of the K through 5 innings. The Trojans Ace faced 18 hitters without surrendering a hit. That all changed in the bottom of the 6th as Plymouth North shortstop Colin Nicklas hit a 3-2 slider that looked like a routine fly out but never came down. The ball carried 400+ feet over the left field wall for a solo home-runand the Trojans lead was cut to 3-1.

Connolly followed the home run with a walk. After an E3 pickoff attempt, the second run scurried across the plate for Plymouth North on an RBI single. Connolly got out of the jam with a strike out.

The Trojans were shut down after 4 and could only muster three hits in the last 3 innings. Coach Kearney let his starter finish the game securing the Trojans third straight Brad Martin Tournament win in 3 years. Connolly ended the game himself throwing two straight looking strikeouts followed by two walks and a chopper back to him 1U and the Trojans rolled to a 5-2 victory.

Walsh Powers Trojans to Victory

The Trojans defeated New Bedford Whalers in the first game of the Brad Martin Tournament at Plymouth North High School on a beautiful  Tuesday morning, 3-1, to improve to a perfect 5-0. Getting the nod for his first Varsity baseball start was Junior  RHP PJ Walsh. Walsh managed to strike out 9 batters while allowing only 3 hits, 1 BB, 1 earned run in his 6 + innings of work throwing an efficient 78 pitches. The Whalers opened up the scoring in the 1st inning after getting a leadoff walk to start the game followed by the first strikeout for Walsh and a RBI single to the large outfield. Walsh recorded three K's in the first while facing 5 batters. The Trojans bats rallied behind their young starter to equal the score at the end of the 1st. BR opened with a leadoff single for Trahon, who would later score the Trojans first run of the game.

                The Trojans added just one run in the 4th inning, after having the bases loaded with no outs to start the inning. Two strikeouts later Nick Andrews drew a walk to plate Jon Livolsi from third. The Whalers dodged a bullet only allowing 1 run on 2 hits, an error, and a walk and three strikeouts to end the 4th inning.

                After his first inning nerves Walsh was lights out only allowing 2 hits and four base runners after the 1st inning. “I was nervous in the first inning but settled in and felt comfortable and confident. I felt strong with my curveball and had a lot of control with it,”  Walsh said about his start. His curveball was strong and helped him record 9Ks. After a leadoff HBP to start the 7th Coach Kearney sommonsed to the pen and that was all for Walsh. Walsh went 6 + innings throwing 78 pitches, allowing 3 Hits, recording 9Ks and walking one. In to seal the deal for the Trojans was their work horse lefty Alex McGrath. McGrath recorded a looking strikeout to get the first out in the 7th, followed by a fly out and a ground out to end the first game of the Brad Martin Tournament and the Trojans won 3-1.

Notable offensive players for BR: Sophomore Colin Trahon 3-3 with a single, double, and a triple as well as a stolen base. Senior Cory Wayslow 1-3 with a single, reached on an error in the 4th, and fielder’s choice.

The Trojans are back at Plymouth North on Thursday to play the host team (Plymouth North) in the Championship game, at 2 PM, as Plymouth North defeated the Silver Lake Lakers in exciting extra inning fashion.    PN Junior Joe Walsh hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 12th to send Plymouth North (5-1) past Silver Lake (2-2), 7-6.
    Plymouth North junior Nick Lloyd had hit a two-run home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Probable pitcher for the Trojans is Senior Captain Jack Connolly.

Trojans Sweep DY

After an early morning wake up call, the Trojans loaded up the bus for a long day of baseball. Due to the unprecedented winter, early season games were pushed back and both BR & DY, said “Let’s play two.”
            The first game began at 11am at Red Wilson Field in South Yarmouth. Getting the nod for BR in game 1 was Junior right-hander Chris Newman. Newman was making his first start for the Trojans after being shut down from the bump with a strained rotator cuff. After a 1-2-3 bottom of the 1st inning, Chris Newman lost his pace. He got a ground out to begin the 2nd, then gave up a walk and two hits, one an RBI single, to plate the first run of the day.     DY 1-0
            Newman never really gained control over the heavy bats for Dennis-Yarmouth. The 3rd inning began with a triple followed by a walk and a 2 RBI single. BR fell behind for the first time this season 3-0. The Trojans defensively rallied behind their pitcher and stopped the bleeding getting through the 4th down 3-0. Newman went four innings, throwing 77 ptiches, 7 hits, 2 Ks, 3 BBs, and 1 HBP. Coach Kearney turned towards Junior lefty Alex McGrath. McGrath came into the bottom of the 5th down 3-0 to DY and slammed the door shut. He go two bloopers back to him and a looking strikeout to rush the Trojans back into the dugout with only two innings left to come back.
            In the Top of the 6th, Senior Jon Livolsi led off the bombardment of singles followed by Senior Captains Cory Wasylow and Jack Connolly as well as Junior Outfielder Mikey Manning with a 2 RBI single. A LaFond rocket plated Connolly and that was all for the DY starter, knotting the score up at 3. Senior Kyle Horsman grounded into a fielder’s choice, putting runners at the corners, for pinch hitter Junior Zac Nussbaum. Nussbaum delivered a long two out 2 RBI double giving BR the lead for the first time this game. In the 6th inning alone, Trojans had 5 runs on 6 hits and a walk with 10 batters.          BR 5 – DY 3
            Those two insurance runs were all the BR needed as Alex McGrath kept his cool and finished out the game. McGraths line card: 3 innings on 27 pitches, 5 Ks, 1 Hit, 3 infield assists. Offensively the Trojans were led by Cory Wasylow 2-4 with 2 singles, Jack Connolly 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, and Paul LaFond 2-3 with 2 singles.  The Trojans improved to 3-0 as they took game one 5 – 3.
            After a quick turn-around baseball was back this time, BR was at a new ‘Home’ field. As it being a double-header, the Trojans took home field advantage for game 2. On the bump for BR, was their Junior southpaw Mikey Manning. Manning came out of the gate firing (and was he ever). He recorded 3Ks in his first 3 innings of work, sitting down DY 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9. In those 3 innings throwing just 32 pitches!
            The 4th inning left off right like the rest with a hiccup HBP, but nothing came across for DY. The bottom of the 4th led off with a lined double by Senior Jon Livolsi, followed by a long at-bat for Jack Connolly getting the count full and fouling off many to draw the walk. Senior Paul Lafond drew the first two runs of game 2 with a 2RBI double. Kyle Horsman continued the inning with an RBI single, followed by a huge lining double by Junior second baseman Nick Andrews. Both Andrews and Horsman scored on a two-out 2RBI double by Sophomore Colin Trahon. The Trojans recorded 5 Hits, 5 Runs, and a Walk helping seal the deal for game 2.
            Mikey Manning never looked flustered on the hill, after another 1-2-3 4th inning, he let up the first HIT in the top of the 6th inning. A leadoff single followed by a fielders choice and a two-out RBI double – E8 advanced runner to third, plated DY's first run ofthe game. Without being phased the southpaw Manning went back out for the 7th and shut down DY with 2 Ks and a ground out. Manning went the distance, throwing 87 pitches, 7IP, 2 Hits, 10 Ks, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1R, 1ER. Manning improved to 2-0 on the year. Trojans took both games Saturday, with game two final 5-1. Offensively the Trojans were led by Kyle Horsman 2-3 with two singles and an RBI,  Paul LaFond 1-3 with a double and 2RBI, and Jonathan Livolsi 2-3 with a double.
            The Trojans travel to Plymouth North twice next week as they will compete in the annual Brad Martin Tournament. Their first game is Tuesday @ 11am v New Bedford. That game is followed by Plymouth North v Silver Lake. BR won this tournament the last two years.

Trojans Blank Barnstable behind a Complete Game by Sr. Jack Connolly

The Trojans improve to 2-0 as they make swift work of the Barnstable Red Raiders  by a score of 2-0, in a game lasting roughly 90 minutes, at Hank Pearson Field. The Trojans were led heavily by a dominating pitching performance by Notre Dame bound Senior Captain Jack Connolly. Connolly threw 85 pitches over a complete game seven inning performance with 7Ks, 1 BB, 3 hits and two early infield assists to help his cause. Connolly helped his offense with scoring the second run of the game on a no out SAC Fly to center that almost left the park. BR's first run came across on an Error by Barnstable. The Trojans recorded 10 infield putouts, one double play, and caught two Red Raiders on the base paths.  The Trojans were led offensively by Seniors Jon Livolsi, 2-3 with a double and Co-Captain Cory Wasylow, 3-3 with three singles and two Stolen Bases, as well as Junior Mikey Manning, going 1-1 with a SAC Fly and a walk with a run scored. A huge play for BR was in the Top of the 6th, when a ground ball up the middle made Senior Kyle Horsman layout and recover to his feet to turn a 6U-3 Double Play.

Coach Kearney on the win "Yet another solid effort by Jack Connolly ... who was in complete control ... very good defense led by Kyle Horsman, Matt Reagan, Jon Livolsi and Paul LaFond .... and offense keyed by Cory Wasylow, Jon Livolsi, and Mikey Manning ... great game and all-around effort by B-R against a good Barnstable team ...."

Jr. Matt Reagan had a solid effort behind home plate throwing out several runners. 

The Trojans move to the lead in the Old Colony League with a solid opening record of 2-0. BR travels "over the bridge" to Cape Cod Saturday morning for a double-header matinée against Dennis-Yarmouth. Tentatively scheduled to start, and make his first appearance of the season, is Junior Chris Newman. Probable starter for game 2 is Junior Lefty Mikey Manning.

Trojans Trounce Indians!

After an unprecedented winter that recorded record snowfall in the north east and 309 days off, the Trojans highly anticipated season finally commenced. The Trojans jumped out to an early 1-0 record defeating the Dartmouth Indians 11-0 in early Old Colony League action in Dartmouth.
Sophomore Colin Trahon (single) was knocked in by Sr. Captain Cory Wasylow to start the rout.  The Trojans hot start continued as they pounded out 6 straight hits in the top of the 2nd taking a 6-0 lead.  Sr. first baseman Paul Lefond led the offensive drive going 2-2, with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's and a BB.
Junior southpaw Mikey Manning shut down the Indians throwing 85 pitches in 5 INN of work with 8 K's and allowing 4 walks. The Trojans played flawless defense and had no errors!
Jr. Alex McGrath finished off the Indians throwing only 25 pitches in the final 2 frames striking out 3 and the Trojans rolled to an 11-0 victory.

The Trojans continue OCL play on Thursday against Barnstable at Hank Pearson Field as Sr Captain Jack Connolly gets his first start of the year. Connolly, a returning ESPN All State pick, hopes to return to his winning ways of 2014, as he had a "career year" as he went 9-2 with 94 strike outs in 65 innings and a 1.51 ERA.
