The Trojans dodged a bullet on Friday afternoon and escaped with a 6-3 win over a very talented Acton Boxboro squad thanks in part to a complete game pitching performance by Junior Andrew Noviello and some timely hitting!
The Trojans trekked their way to Acton Boxboro High School riding a 9 game winning streak, their confidence level at an all time high and feeling infallible.
This game had the makings of a pitchers duel, as both teams allowed minimal baserunners through 3 1/2 innings. The Colonials would strike first scoring a run on a walk and 2 hits before Noviello would strike out the side. The Trojans would immediately answer ijn the top of the 5th as Cam Polson (Pinch runner for Adam Chase) would scamper home from 1st on a Tyler Carey stand up triple, knotting the score at 1. The score remained tied entering the 7th inning when the Trojans would score 5 runs on hits by Connor Sullivan (bunt), Adam Chase, Kevin Newton an RBI walk by Jack Connolly, 2 RBI single by Corey Dinunno, and a 2 RBI single by Joe Freiday to make the score 6-1. The Colonials would answer bringing 7 men to the plate, including the tying run, but Noviello would induce a game ending ground ball to first and the Trojans held on for the W.
Coach Kearney on the win "good character building win to overcome some mistakes and beat a very good team on the road".
Offensively the Trojans were led by Adam Chase with 3 hits, Corey Dinunno and Joe Freiday with 2 rbis each. Andrew Noviello struck out 12 in the complete game win.
The Trojans improve to 10-0 and square off against the Brockton Boxers on Saturday at Hank Pearson field.
